2. Pat Summitt is one of Knoxville's most famous sports icons. Summitt led the University of Tennessee Lady Vols basketball team for the entirety of her head coaching career from from 1974 - 2012. In that span, Summitt would win 8 NCAA Division I championships, with an unbelievable record of 1,098-208 and was the all-time leader in wins for a long time, however she is now third on the list for women's college basketball coaches. Even though Summitt passed away in 2016, she will forever be held in legend in the city of Knoxville.
