1. Considered the "father" of Grand Junction, George Addison Crawford founded and incorporated the city on July 22, 1882, and helped establish the valley's first vineyard. Crawford had a hand in founding a number of cities in the western half of the country, including three in Kansas and Delta, CO. Crawford was also set to be governor of Kansas, until a technicality overturned his election, leading him to be called Governor Crawford by many.
