Moving can be a very stressful time. When moving with a pet it can create even more havoc. Your pet will be stressed out too, and there are a few actions you can take to reduce the stress on you and your pet.
Pack up an overnight bag for your pet with enough food, toys, and anything that they need or like. This will make sure that when you first move into your new home, you will have easy access to your pets needs to make them feel most comfortable.
While you are loading up the moving truck, keep your pet in a relatively empty room. This will keep them away from all the hustle and bustle of moving boxes in and out and back and forth. Make sure to give them some of their favorite items like toys or blankets so they feel less scared.
Be sure to bring your pet with you in your car when moving to the new house. Keep it in its crate, bed, or whatever it is most safe in for the trip. You can often seat belt crates or cages to the seat to make them most secure. You can even put a blanket over their crate or cage to eliminate them from seeing the moving environment around them which can reduce their stress.
New house same habits
Once you arrive at your new location, try to keep all the same habits from your old house. This means putting your pet’s food dish in the same room as your old house, like the kitchen. Also, don’t allow them into rooms that they weren’t allowed in at your old house. If you treat them the same as you did in the old house, they will adjust more easily to the new house.
